Each entry includes claim number, applicant's name, age at time of enlistment, date of enlistment, residence at time of enlistment, birthplace, parent's address (if applicable), residential history, employment history, marital status at time of enlistment, address at time of application, date of application, signature of notary public, date of discharge, place of discharge, accompanying correspondence, and reason for disapproval.

When Mexican and Civil War soldiers mustered out of service, many regiments turned their flags over to the state of Ohio. The General Assembly authorized the purchase of glass cases to display battle flags in the Statehouse. The battle flag collection increased as flags from the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II were deposited. By the 1960s the flags were in poor condition.
